Minister of Mines, George Pirie stated that an estimated three billion dollars worth of economic mining activity is slated in the north–and new mines and expansions in Gogama, Sudbury, Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Detour Lake along with Geraldton, White River and Marathon are just some examples of how the local industry is growing. The region needs to be more aggressive in bringing new critical mineral projects to fruition. Mining is going to be huge for Northern Ontario and there's a ton of expansion here. The minister will give a State of Mining Address to the delegates attending the Projects in the Pipeline Conference.
There are exciting times ahead for the Mining Industry in Northern Ontario with Webequie First Nation and Marten Falls First Nation outlining the terms of reference for an assessment of Ontario's proposed road to the Ring of Fire, which on Monday March 6th, Ontario approved the terms for and also the recently announced reading of the Build More Mines Act which introduces amendments to the Ontario Mining Act that are designed to shorten the time it takes to open a new mines by shortening the application process. In addition to this the hope is to lessen fees of applications, and allow easier access to permits for recovering minerals from mine tailings.
